The Honorable David Vitter
U.S. Senator, Louisiana
516 Hart Senate Building
Washington DC 20510

Dear Senator Vitter:

Recently, both presidential candidates have moderated their positions on drug importation due to recent incidents with tainted food and household product scares involving China and Mexico. As a parent, I am troubled about this not only for myself, but for my family as well.

Furthermore, as a talk show host, you know I hear many sides of this story, and I understand the need to find affordable medicines. But these recent scares should greatly concern all of us, because it involves steps that would relax the safety standards on prescription drug importation.

I do not favor anything which would put our consumers at risk, and, unfortunately, the safety standards in many foreign nations are very weak if not nonexistent. It is such a problem that the Federal Drug Administration and the Secretary of Health and Human Services have warned that drug importation may put our families at risk with counterfeit medicines and contaminated drugs, thus introducing unsafe products directly into the hands of our consumers.

Because we currently do not allow drug importation, the U.S. has a safe drug supply, whereas many foreign countries do not.

I encourage you to please reexamine your position on this matter.

Sincerely,

Jeff Crouere
