New Think Tank Opens Doors in New Orleans PDF Print E-mail
by Jeff Crouere
Wednesday, April 02 2008
A non-profit, free market based think tank, the Pelican Institute for Public Policy, has opened an office in New Orleans. Their mission will be to conduct scholarly research and examine public policy in Louisiana and propose innovative limited government oriented economic policies. This research will then be shared with the public, elected officials and statewide media. In the near future, the Pelican Institute will organize public forums that address important matters of public policy.

The Pelican Institute is part of the State Policy Network which links free market oriented think tanks across the country. The Louisiana organization was one of the final state groups to be established. The Pelican Institute will be led by Kevin Kane, a New York native who initially established ties to New Orleans while a student at Tulane University. In the months ahead, Kane will establish a board of directors and a network of local professors who will develop research papers on topics that impact the state. Some of the initial research topics will include transparency in government and school choice.

Kane plans to establish a regular presence at the upcoming session of the Louisiana Legislature in Baton Rouge and work with like minded legislators to shape legislation that promotes the causes of limited government and free enterprise.
