The open Lt. Governor position is
attracting plenty of attention. At the present time, there are two announced
candidates: St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis and Secretary of State Jay
Dardenne. Undoubtedly, more candidates will officially enter the race, which
will be held this fall. One potential candidate is Louisiana Republican Party
Chairman Roger Villere, who confirmed that he is seriously considering the
race. Villere said that he has been meeting with many Republican leaders
throughout the state and that the response has been “very positive.” Villere
has served as Republican National Committeeman for LouisianaCovington. and since 2004 as party Chairman.
He is the owner of Villere’s Florist which has locations in Metairie and
While candidates line up for the
election, State Representative Cameron Henry (R-Metairie) will be sponsoring a
bill in the upcoming session of the Louisiana Legislature to abolish the
position of Lt. Governor. The bill needs the support of two-thirds of the
Louisiana Legislature. Even though it has the support of Governor Jindal, most
observers, including House Speaker Jim Tucker (R-Algiers) believe that the
measure will not pass. Once Mitch Landrieu vacates the position of Lt. Governor
to take office as Mayor of New Orleans, Governor Jindal will appoint an interim
Lt. Governor to serve until the fall elections. One requirement for the interim
appointee will be that the person promise not to run for the office in the
special election.

Can you get Villere on as a partisipant on your show? He has a great record. I believe he was the right hand man for the XGovernor before XGovernor Blanko.
