Governor. The bill needs the support of two-thirds of the Louisiana Legislature. Even though it has the support of Governor Jindal, most observers, including House Speaker Jim Tucker (R-Algiers) believe that the measure will not pass. Once Mitch Landrieu vacates the position of Lt. Governor to take office as Mayor of New Orleans, Governor Jindal will appoint an interim Lt. Governor to serve until the fall elections. One requirement for the interim appointee will be that the person promise not to run for the office in the special election.
