Ringside Politics With A Punch

August 14, 2009…It is August of 2009, but it might as well be George Orwell’s 1984. The author’s nightmare vision of an oppressive government is coming true in Barack Obama’s America . The latest example is the administration’s blatant assault on free speech.

The Obama White House is asking supporters to spy on fellow Americans and inform on any friends, family members or colleagues who may be opposed to the President’s trillion dollar health care plan. According to the White House website: “There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there…These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”

So, the White House wants their supporters to help them amass a large “enemies list,” reminiscent of Richard Nixon. In fact, a liberal caller to my program stated that he would report me to the White House. It is unknown what the White House will do with the “enemies list,” but I can imagine that we will not be receiving Christmas cards from the Obama family.

Whereas Nixon’s list was limited to his opponents in the media and politics, this list will include average Americans with a point of view that is contrary to the White House. This harassment is a continuation of the assault that has been operating for the last several months. Ever since the tea parties were held in April, opponents have been demonized by Democrats as being part of a “mob” and even “un-American.”

 Today, congressional town hall meetings have exploded with Americans venting their anger at the oppressive government plans for health care “reform.” A solid majority of Americans do not want the government to assume a huge role in our health care system, but the White House and congressional Democrats do not care what the people want. They are bound and determined to pass this program and will try to politically destroy their opponents in the process.

It is amazing that patriotic Americans who are taking time from their busy day to attend a town hall meeting are being criticized, but that is what Democrats are doing. These protesters should be celebrated for speaking their mind and informing their congressional representatives about their views on a vital issue such as health care.

It used to be that many politicians would complain about apathy among the public and that people just did not seem to care. Now that people do care and are getting active, they are being criticized for acting like a “mob.” No member of Congress has been harmed at one of these meetings, yet a protester was beaten up by a union thug, who was trying to suppress the expression of discontent. In America , we are seeing an unprecedented assault on our freedoms, coupled with an unprecedented growth of the federal government. It is both understandable and refreshing to see so many people attend town hall meetings and express their opinion.

People have every right to be angry, for the way this government has been operating is an outrage. It is high time we heard from the silent majority of people who make this country work, pay their taxes and send their sons and daughters to protect this country at home and abroad.

We saw thousands of tea parties on tax day and July 4th, now members of Congress are hearing from angry Americans at town hall meetings. This is a great sign that the silent majority of Americans is waking up to what is going on in this nation and that they refuse to be silent any longer.
