Politics with a Punch is held monthly on stage before a live audience. It is our own local version of "Politically Incorrect." It is a fast-paced, free-wheeling, no-holds barred discussion of what is happening in our city, state and nation.

In our six years of existence, we have featured some of the top political, business, comedic, media and entertainment talent in Louisiana. I am honored to host Politics with a Punch, an event which has attracted sell-out crowds for the past several years.

Join us on Thursday August 14th for another special edition of Politics with a Punch. We are now in a new location, the Cricket Club, 2040 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans. Many of you will remember it as the Eiffel Tower Restaurant or the Red Room, so you know it is an exquisite facility, one of the most unique in New Orleans.

For this show, we are also opening the doors early, at 6 p.m. and will be offering a Happy Hour for Punch patrons. As usual, the event will begin at 8 p.m. Post event, the bar will remain open and a snack menu will be available for Punch patrons.

Please make plans to join us. We have assembled another outstanding panel, one of the best of all-time. Here is the list of the talented celebrities who will be in our line-up:

  • Leon Cannizzaro, Former Judge, Candidate for Orleans D.A.

  • Suzaune Yee McKamey, Singer, Actress and Entertainer

  • Newell Normand, Jefferson Parish Sheriff

  • Cedric Richmond, State Representative and Candidate for Congress

  • Mark Singletary, Publisher of New Orleans City Business

  • Mike Smith, Comedian, Contributor to New Orleans Levee Newspaper

  • Dr. Michael White, Jazz Musician, Bandleader & Composer

Here are some of the many topics we will discuss:

John Edwards Exposed by the National Enquirer! How low can he go? Lying to the voters and cheating on his cancer stricken wife. Hillary and Bill playing coy with Obama; McCain calls Obama a celebrity, Paris Hilton calls McCain an “old dude.”

Lee Zurik is Hurting the Recovery! How dare the Ch. 4 reporter expose the NOAH mess! Nagin gives him wrong list and then blames reporter; Brother-in-law Cedric Smith on contractor list, but did he do the work? Ex-NOAH Dir. Stacy Jackson owns some nice real estate and a men’s underwear shop showing the interesting benefits of bureaucracy.

State Senator Derrick Shepherd’s Motto, “Don’t Worry, be Happy!”  As he was on the verge of arrest, the Senator was caught cavorting with lap dancers; His girlfriend recants her story, but was she telling the truth? He faces federal charges and must serve home detention at his mom’s house since his real home is six miles outside of the district.

Chief Riley Tries to Reassure the Public. It seems that every day some officers are getting arrested, convicted or fired. Riley says 90% of the cops are good, but that leaves 150 rogue cops, not too comforting.

Inspector General Tells City Attorney to Stuff It! Inspector General Cerasoli will not turn over documents or tip off the city attorney or anyone else in administration. The poor man needs help. There is a new investigation everyday as corruption never sleeps in N.O.

Nagin Yells at City Council! He wants them to play as a team and wants respect for his schedule. But what kind of example is the team captain setting? By the way, what is on his schedule, maybe lunch with this wife, working out at the gym, flying home to Dallas?

These topics and plenty more will be discussed Thursday night August 14 at our new home, the Cricket Club, for another special edition of Politics with a Punch.

What a great program we are preparing for Thursday night! We are now in our 6th year of Punch and this will be our 69th program since our inception in 2002.

On Thursday night Newell Normand will share with us real stories about battling crime in the biggest parish in Louisiana; Leon Cannizzaro will enlighten us on why he gave up a comfortable judgeship for the rough and tumble of a political campaign; Dr. Michael White will give us a unique perspective from a musician who has been all over the world as an Ambassador for New Orleans; Cedric Richmond will inform us why he wants to trade the Legislature for Congress; Suzaune McKamey will entertain us with her artistic and comic views on all of these local controversies; Mike Smith will charm us with his zany, one of a kind joke telling; and Mark Singletary will share his bird’s eye view as a newspaper publisher reporting on all of the hot topics we discuss.

In between, we’ll address the controversies and the crazy antics of our local leaders and have plenty of fun in the process.
